Free Disability Law Workshops Coming to Te Taitokerau

Access to clear, culturally grounded legal education can make a real difference for disabled people and their whānau.

This February, we’re partnering with Aotearoa Disability Law and kaupapa-aligned organisations to support tangata whaikaha across Te Taitokerau, their whānau, support workers, and practitioners in better understanding their legal rights, choices, and future planning options.

This roadshow connects communities directly with specialist legal educators and advocates, helping to:

  • Strengthen understanding of decision-making rights

  • Support future planning for individuals and whānau

  • Increase confidence when navigating education systems

  • Clarify Individualised Funding (IF) options and changes

By delivering these workshops across multiple locations, we aim to remove barriers and ensure people across Te Taitokerau can access this important information.

What Topics Will Be Covered?

Each workshop will include sessions on:

Making Decisions Your Way: PPPR, EPOA and Supported Decision Making
Presented by Nick Johnston – Aotearoa Disability Law
Learn about different ways decisions can be supported and planned for, and what options are available under the law.

Planning for the Future: Māori Land & Succession
Presented by Savanna Kaingaroa Lauder – Whare Āwhina
Explore EPOA, Kaitiaki Trusts and succession planning, with a focus on Māori land and cultural considerations.

Know Your Rights at School

Understanding Individualised Funding (IF)
