Do you have a legal question?
We are a team or roia hapori (community lawyers) and kaihāpai hapori (community liaison).
We listen carefully and create a whānau-friendly space where people feel supported and respected.
Our team offers a wide range of free legal help, including information, advice, and legal education workshops.
We provide initial legal information at our drop in sessions, community outreach clinics, or by appointment, always in a way that is welcoming and grounded in care.
If you require ongoing legal assistance with your legal issue, we will help you find an appropriate lawyer.
In some circumstances, and depending on your needs and our capacity, we may be able to provide free ongoing assistance, guided by fairness and our commitment to supporting whānau.

Can we help you?
We know that asking for legal help isn’t always easy. If you’re struggling to afford advice, we might be able to help.
Our community law service is funded to provide free legal support for people who:
Live in Taitokerau, anywhere between Wellsford and Cape Reinga, and
Have a low household income that falls within our eligibility thresholds.
If you’re a student, beneficiary, unemployed, or on a low income, there’s a good chance we can help.
When you contact us, our friendly team will ask just two quick questions to check:
Where do you live?
What’s your household income?
If you don’t quite meet the criteria, that’s okay. We’ll do our best to connect you with another service that may be able to support you.
Whatever your situation, we’ll listen and help you find the next step forward.

Legal Education
We offer free legal education workshops and talks for community groups and organisations. These can help people understand various areas of the law and avoid problems before they arise.
In this way we can also identify and respond to emerging legal issues in our community.
Please call us about the area of law you are interested in learning more about. We will research it and come and talk to your group.
Terms of Engagement
All lawyers are required to provide client care and service information prior to doing work for you.
This includes information about who is doing the work, cost, and any limits to their ordinary duties.
Lawyers call these their Terms of Engagement and our services are subject to our these terms.
